Bohol day trip from Cebu: ferry, timing and what to expect (2026)

How much does a trip to the Philippines cost? (2026 budget guide)

La risposta breve

Yes, you can do Bohol as a day trip from Cebu, and many travelers do. A fast ferry crosses in about two hours, which leaves enough time for a countryside loop with the Chocolate Hills, the tarsiers and a lunch on the river. The honest catch is the length of the day: you leave Cebu before sunrise, you get back at night, and you see the highlights rather than the island.

If you are short on time, do it. If you can spare one night in Panglao, do it as two days instead. It costs little more and feels like a different trip.

How the crossing works

Fast craft leave from Cebu’s Pier 1 and take about two hours to reach Tagbilaran (slower conventional boats leave from Pier 3 and take around four). OceanJet runs the most departures, with the first boats from Cebu around 5:10 AM, and SuperCat starts a little later, around 5:50 AM. Coming back, the last boats leave Tagbilaran in the early evening, roughly 5:45 to 6:30 PM depending on the operator.

In tourist class, expect roughly PHP 800 to 1,000 each way, with prices moving by operator, class and season. Fast craft do get delayed when the sea is rough, so never build your day around the very last boat back.

What a realistic day looks like

The order changes with traffic and the ferry you catch, but a typical private day runs like this:

  • 5:30 AM: pick-up at your Cebu hotel
  • 7:00 AM: fast ferry to Tagbilaran, arriving around 9:00
  • Late morning: the drive inland to the Chocolate Hills, the longest leg of the day
  • Midday: lunch cruise on the Loboc River
  • Afternoon: Tarsier Sanctuary, Man-Made Forest and Baclayon Church
  • Around 5:00 PM: ferry back to Cebu, reaching your hotel in the evening

That is roughly a 14-hour day door to door. It works well for a group that is happy to trade rest for coverage.

What is actually worth your time

Chocolate Hills. More than 1,200 cone-shaped hills spread across Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan. The main viewing deck in Carmen is about 50 to 55 kilometers from Tagbilaran, roughly an hour and a half by road, and you climb 214 steps in full sun, so bring water. The hills are at their most dramatic at the end of the dry season, when the grass turns brown. If you want something more active, an ATV ride of about 30 minutes can be added on the spot.

Tarsier Sanctuary, Corella. A protected forest where you see tarsiers from a distance, with no flash and no touching. Skip the roadside tarsier stalls, where the animals are kept to earn tips.

Loboc River cruise. A slow lunch on the water. It feels more like a local afternoon than an attraction, which is its charm.

Man-Made Forest, Bilar. A long road lined with mahogany trees. A short photo stop, not a destination.

Baclayon Church. One of the oldest stone churches in the country, close to the port, so it fits easily at the start or the end of the day.

Python park. The easiest stop to cut if you are running late.

Danao Adventure Park. Far to the east of the island, so a big detour. If zipline and rappelling matter to you, stay overnight or drop other stops, because it does not fit comfortably into a ferry day.

Day trip or overnight?

Do the day trip if you only have one day, you are based in Cebu, and your group is happy with a very early start and a late return. Teenagers and adults generally handle it well.

Stay a night if you are traveling with seniors or young children, if you want Panglao’s beaches or the island hopping around Pamilacan, or if you want to add Danao or the ATV without rushing. Bohol is the island that surprises people, and it rewards a slower pace. Between the two, it is the one we would call more distinctly Filipino, with fewer polished resorts and more real countryside.

How we would do it

Our private Bohol Day Tour from Cebu covers the countryside loop with a driver and a local guide, and we can arrange the ferry and the transfer to the Cebu pier so you do not have to coordinate the crossing yourself.

If you would rather give Bohol more time, our Cebu + Bohol tour package and the 3 days in Bohol itinerary build in the night on the island. Still deciding between islands? Our Cebu vs Bohol comparison covers it, and Bohol vs Palawan and Bohol vs Coron show how Bohol stacks up against the Palawan side. For a longer Visayas route, see our 7-day Cebu and Bohol itinerary, or get in touch and we will shape it around your dates.

Can you do Bohol as a day trip from Cebu?

Yes. A fast ferry takes about two hours each way, and a private countryside tour fits the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers and Loboc River into one day. Expect a very early start and a late return.

How long is the ferry from Cebu to Bohol?

About two hours on a fast craft from Cebu Pier 1 to Tagbilaran. Conventional boats are slower, around four hours.

What time should you leave Cebu for a Bohol day trip?

Aim for a ferry between 5:10 and 7:00 AM. Anything later eats into your time at the Chocolate Hills, and you still need to make the last boat back.

How much does the Cebu to Bohol ferry cost?

Roughly PHP 800 to 1,000 each way in tourist class. Prices vary by operator, class and season.

Is one day enough for Bohol?

It is enough for the highlights, not for the island. If you can add a night in Panglao, you get beaches, island hopping and a much calmer pace.

Is the Chocolate Hills viewpoint hard to climb?

It is 214 steps to the main deck, manageable for most people but tiring in midday heat. It can be difficult for older visitors or anyone with limited mobility.

Can you visit Danao Adventure Park on the same day trip?

Not comfortably. It is a long detour to the east of the island, so it only works if you drop other stops or add a night.
